Arctic Lapland Rally has been organized annually since 1966. The rally invites friends of motorsport of a high level to get together. The competition is well known among Formula One drivers so some of the world-famous racers have also participated in the rally during the years. Start and finish line are situated in Lordi’s square.
The Arctic Lapland Rally starts the Finnish rally season. In this two-day long competition the first part of Finnish Rally Championship is driven. Besides also Suomi Cup is driven. The Finnish Rally Championship consists of two classes: two and four wheel drive. In the two wheel drive class (SM2) are group N, FIA R2, FIA R3 and FIN R maximum 2000 cm3 cars. Also Finnish Junior Championship is raced in the two wheel drive. Cars of the four wheel drive (SM1) are group N over 2000 cm3 and Super 2000 Rally. Suomi Cup has four classes: Group A four wheel drive with WRC cars, former 1400 Rally Trophy cars, V1600 cars and group F. Also there are classes for A-juniors and Historic cars. In the competition one type of tyres is used so every competitor has similar tyres and tyre services. This way no-one can blame tyres for bad luck.
In the race track of Mäntyvaara you can watch the competition inside of auditorium and get real time disclosure and result services. At the same time you can eat lunch, snack and all kinds of drinks. VIP-village provides atmospheric moments in the glow of fire and in the warm auditorium. In Rantasipi Hotel Pohjanhovi music artist entertains the rally audience and also press conferences are held there. During the event there is a competition where is chosen a Rally Girl of the year. This tradition is as old as the rally event itself. The rally girl expedites the drivers from the start line, welcomes them to the finish line and participates to the distribution of prizes.
